Falling for the Angels
They’ve fallen for the angels:
Wooed and dined, felated
“We’ll help you save your planet …
“The one that we created.”
Appealing to their arrogance,
They call our leaders “tops.”
Reminding them how well they’ve used
Assassins, special ops.
Explaining to our leaders:
“Your wealth was meant to be
“Of course you’ve got all that it takes …
“Money and stupidity.”
Who are they using our governments
To drain the poor man dry? … …
And boost these new age robber barons,
Who think they’ll never die?
The robber barons think they’re it
They’ve thought it all their lives
But there’s one step above them
And fallen angels lie
In truth, they’re too small-minded
To think that this is it
To think God flies around through time
God’s in a piece of lint
God’s in perfect machines
Never breaking down
Always perfect orbit
In Atoms, round and round
Round and round like time is
Like our solar system
The robber barons have bought the lies
Do we risk trying to save them?
The fallen angels tell them:
“Look at the death, disease.
“God must be mad at man.
“The thorns, insects, snakes, bees.”
But the prophet Isaiah said this:
That one day on a whole new earth
The animals evil corrupted
Will have their own second birth.
They’ve told them God’s “ambivalent
“It’s hard to pin him down.
“And so unpredictably mean …
“And that’s why we’re around.
“We have to stand together
“To prove that we can win
“If we can prove that we deserve it
“We get earth back again.
“And this time we will rule it
“No laws of the jungle here
“But efficiency, divisions of labor
“The future is quite clear.
“Continue as you’re going
“We’ve shown the future to you”
If we weren’t God, could we do that?
“That’s better, here’s what you do:
“Since the melting pot
“Has served it purpose, and
“Is marked for earthquakes, floods
“A broken, desolate land …
“Now fly two planes into buildings
“So people will scream, No more!
“And piss their lives and futures away.
“In profit-making wars.
“Deplete your military.
“Kill off all the grunts.
“By wiping out the Army and Marines
“Civilians are easier to hunt.
“This will immanentize the eschaton!
“Make it happen quicker.
“Destroy the economy sooner.
“Make the sickly sicker.
“Look at those deformed children
“See all the bugs and pests
“Cruel how God has done these things
“All things that we detest.”
But if the truth be known
They’ve done it all themselves
And blamed their sins on God
War, poverty, bad health
Joshua lingered at the tent
After Moses left that place
And then himself went in
To meet who face to face?
“Slaughter the people of Canaan!
“If you won’t then we will.
“Or say we did and write it …
“We must make believers kill.
And Moses and the Ten Commandments,
When God showed them “his back” …
That was them, the fallen angels!
The Bible’s torn and hacked!”
They tricked those they could trick
The wealthy and powerful
By appealing to their pride and arrogance
Their hatred has cost us all
They’ll tell the world they’re gods
And when this thing is done
They’ll hail their messiah Lucifer
The final battle won.
But that’s not true for some
That’s not true for all
The bigger that they come
The harder that they fall.
